Purple allium picture
This purple allium picture was taken in our garden this spring. It's the first year we've tried to grow this plant. We liked it so much we're planning on adding several more to the garden next year. A common name for this flower is ornamental onion. It grows to about three feet high with a 4-5 inch flower, making it a unique garden plant. Blooming occurs in springtime and lasts about three weeks. You shouldn't trim the foliage when blooming has stopped. This helps your plants to bloom the following year. You should plant bulbs in fall in order to have them the following spring.
