Purple tulip picture
This purple tulip picture came from our garden. Tulips are probably one of the most popular Spring blooming flowers. Most people when they think of tulips think of Holland but they actually are thought to have originated in Turkey. There are over 100 different species of tulips ranging from about 6 inches in size to over 2 feet tall. The best time of year to plant tulip bulbs is in the Fall as they need a cool dormancy period to bloom in the Spring. As with most bulb type plants you should not cut the leaves off after blooming. They should be allowed to fade away naturally so the plant can get the nutrients it needs for the next year's blooms.
